With each pair of boots you have, you should take the time to properly maintain them. The few minutes you invest doing this will greatly extend the life of the boots.

Clean

Do not let dirt and dust accumulate on leather products. After each wearing, your boots should be wiped down with a damp, not wet, cloth. Dust and dirt can break down the leather and shorten the life of your boots. Allow your boots to dry out thoroughly between wearings. This prevents the onset of bacteria from forming in the leather. Allow your boots to air dry; do not set them near heat as this will dry them out excessively.

Condition

Conditioning leather is important because conditioner helps to maintain the original look and feel of the leather. By conditioning your boots you will be keeping your boots from drying out. Use a conditioner specially formulated for boots. Lanolin based products work best. Stampede Tack & Western Wear has plenty of options for you to choose from. Our favorite for most leathers is a conditioner called Bick 4, which is especially good for exotic leathers which require ever a little more TLC.

Polish

To keep your boots looking their best, you should periodically apply a matching boot cream polish. The polish will help to cover any scuffs and can be brought to a bright luster.

Protect

You can protect your boots even more with water repellant. You can also use boot trees to help maintain your boots shape and form when you are not wearing them. Finally, always use a Boot Jack to remove your cowboy boots so that they do not break down or get damaged from “kicking” them off. Thank you very much for your email and inquiry regarding our Wrangler Jeans. I’d be happy to share the reasoning behind our pricing of Wrangler jeans compared to the Wrangler jeans that Walmart sells.

Wrangler has many different divisions of jeans. One of those divisions is the Western Wear division and the jeans that are included in the Western Wear division are made of USA material and are assembled in Mexico. The denim that is used for the Western jeans is also a heavier and more durable weight of denim than the regular Wrangler jeans available at Walmart.  We only sell jeans from the Wrangler Western Wear division.

Wrangler makes jeans exclusively for Walmart and there are vast differences in the quality of the denim used in these jeans.  The denim is not as heavy a weight nor may it be a USA cotton.  In addition, some of the jeans are also manufactured off shore in other countries.

It really is comparing apples to oranges with regards to the quality and construction of the Wrangler jeans we sell versus the ones available at Walmart. If I can use a car analogy, it is close to comparing a base model Chevy to a Cadillac.  Both made by the same company but certainly different classes of quality.

We have had many customers tell us how they appreciate the quality and longevity of the Wrangler jeans we sell and that makes a lot of “horse sense” to us.

Stampede Tack today is a local, family run business that Ralph and Floss Winkler have been a part of since 1984. They originally purchased Cliff Saddlery from longtime Langley resident John Scotten (who can still be found around the riding arena of Langley Riders) in 1980. Cliff Saddlery was located on Fraser Highway during the 1970’s just across the road from where Gabby’s Country Cabaret is located today. Many longtime residents of Langley are sure to remember this little gem of a tack store! In 1984 the Winkler’s became partners in Stampede Tack and merged the two stores into one. So in a sense, this celebration is how a little tack store in Langley became one of the best known Tack & Western Stores in Canada! Today, together with their two daughters and a son-in-law (all from Langley) they are announcing that they are having a anniversary event as a way of saying thanks to all their great friends and customers over the years. Many of Stampede’s customers have been around these parts just as long as the store itself and in many ways they are more than customers. Many friendships have been made over the years – in fact three of Stampede’s employees have been there for over 25 years and have a special bond with the Langley Equine community. So on Saturday, October 8th Stampede Tack is going to say thank you for a great 50 years.

We will get a pre-authorization on your credit card and then you will have 5-7 days to try out the saddle to ensure it fits both you and your horse. If the saddle fits, great. We will complete the sale. If not, then we cancel the pre-authorization and hopefully we can find another saddle that works for you and your horse. Please, we ask that common sense and care be taken when trying out the saddles.
2. If we have to send the saddle to you, we will get a pre-authorization on your credit card for the amount of the saddle. You will still have a few days to try the saddle and make sure it fits. If it does, thst is great and we will process the sale of the saddle on your credit card. If it does not fit then you just send the saddle back to us and we will cancel the pre-authorization on your credit card, assuming that the saddle is returned in the same condition as you received it. All we ask is that care and common sense be used when you are trying out the saddle. It’s that simple.

Stampede Tack & Western Wear was founded almost by accident in October of 1966 by Jack and Valerie Graham. Drawn to the coast from Winnipeg, the Graham’s settled down on a four-hectare hobby farm. It was not long after that Jack’s expertise – he had spent years in the car industry – was called upon to help liquidate an automotive parts business. After the initial liquidation sale, there was still lots of stuff left over and the Graham’s struck a deal with a local shop keeper to store the extras in his tire shed and continue to sell it. This unwittingly spawned the birth of one of Canada’s Largest Tack store.

While selling the remainder of the auto parts, an old guy came by one day with a couple of used saddles. Jack bought them. They turned over so quickly that the Graham’s decided to bring in a few more saddles to see if they’d sell too.

So they placed a $3000 order for saddles and tack with Welsh’s Saddlery in Edmonton. The reputation of “The Swap Shop” spread quickly and soon people from as far away as Vancouver and Abbotsford came to the Graham’s for deals on saddles and tack. They didn’t last long in that old tire shop where the roof leaked and there wasn’t even room for a fitting room – they had hung up an old bedspread in the corner so people would have a place to try things on.

By October 1967, the Graham’s had moved around the corner to a 2500 sq. foot store they rented from Corky Jarvis, who owned the lumber yard. The Swap Shop had now evolved into Stampede Feed & Tack and before long the demand for all types of saddles and tack grew and the store was stocked to the ceiling. The atmosphere of Cloverdale was perfect for a budding tack and feed store. The locals would drop by for a visit with the amiable Grahams and for the camaraderie of the other customers. Soon, Stampede Feed & Tack became a focal point for those involved in the horse world – just as Stampede Tack & Western Wear continues to be today.

They quickly outgrew that second store too and in 1970 the Grahams moved Stampede Feed & Tack to its current 10,000 sq. foot location in Cloverdale at 17982 #10 Hwy. At the peak of their operation, they had a staff of 26 and a selection of stock that was second to none in Canada. The store was a horseperson’s dream – a destination really – with English and Western saddles, tack, clothing, boots, halters and more. Everything for the horse and rider!

The Graham’s sold Stampede Feed & Tack in 1972. From 1972 until 1984, it was owned by a partnership between the Roger’s and Davidson Families. In 1984, Ralph & Floss Winkler joined forces with Stampede when they brought over their store from neighboring Langley, Cliff’s Saddlery. This is the way Stampede would remain until 1995 when the Winkler’s would eventually become the sole proprietors of Stampede and renaming it to its current namesake, Stampede Tack & Western Wear. With many of the staff having been with Stampede Tack & Western Wear for over 10 years or more, there is always a friendly and familiar face ready to help when you arrive at the front door.

Stampede Tack & Western Wear continues today with the strong principles that originated from day one with the Graham’s. A supporter in the community by generously helping numerous organizations both in and outside the horse and western industry, Stampede Tack & Western Wear will continue to strive for years to come as a leader and as the Finest Saddlery in all of Canada.

Boots

We have over 3000 pairs of boots at Stampede Tack & Western Wear and a big selection of those boots are designed with the motorcycle rider in mind. We carry boots by Boulet, Canada West and Harley Davidson and even a waterproof one by Ariat in both men’s and ladies styles. We have black leather ones and brown ones too! We try and stock ladies sizes from 5 1/2C to 11C and men’s from size 6 to 15 in a variety of widths.

Accessories

Not everyday that you are out on your bike is going to be perfect weather and perfect riding conditions so it is best to be prepared. That is why at Stampede Tack & Western Wear you will find all the gear needed to keep you dry and warm. We have waterproof rain suits that fit right over your leathers which are quick and easy to put on and pack up small for when you don’t need it.
